Modular Joints

Introduction

As well as for new bridges as for bridges repair the expansion joints are important.

The joints are used, as its definition says, to fill the spaces requiered by design between structures like for example the spaces between two superstructure sections or between a section and the fix end.

An efficient joint has to fulfill the following specifications:

  1. The transmission of forces and the movement liberty:
    • It has to be save during the vehicles traffic.
    • The joint anchor has to be resistant to bending and encased in the structure elements that have to be joined.
    • The adaptation to movements of the structure has to be permanent.
  2. The durability of the joint elements to obtain:
    • Absolute watertightness.
    • High resistance to fatigue.
    • Resistance to corrosion and to aging deterioration.
  3. Low emission of noises during the pass of vehicles.
  4. Selfcleaning.

DELFLEX, and DELMEX joints for new bridges

The DELFLEX and DELMEX system provide great advantages for the construction of new bridges. To install the joint it is enough to leave 25 cm x 25cm along the space between the two structures, so the expansion joint can be encased in concrete afterwards.

Our products have a special design to fulfill all the fundamental properties of an efficient joint:

  • To be absolutely waterthightness.
  • Resistant to bending by adhesion.
  • The neoprene profile is never in contact with the vehicle tires.

Installation process for DELFLEX and DELMEX

For new bridges:

  1. Enable the reinforcement rebar in the steel-fabrication shop.
  2. Layout, installation, and leveling of the joint in the space of 25 x 25 cm.
  3. Fixation of the reinforcement rebar by welding it.
  4. Place the elastomeric concrete.
  5. Wait until de concrete has reached the necessary resistance for the traffic.
